Should You Judge a Book by its Cover?
I have to admit that I was VERY doubtful about this cover when I first saw it. Jason, the hero, is supposed to be an enormous, brawny veteran, almost scary looking. Here’s a passage where he’s described:
Missy looked behind Ashley. “Who’s that?”
Ashley glanced back and realized that Jason still stood on the sidelines, waiting for her to be finished with her conversation. Titan stood beside him. And was Jason leaning on the dog a little?
Yikes. For a minute, she’d forgotten about him. She shouldn’t have left him standing there.
“He’s…a guy I’m interviewing,” Ashley said. “For Matt’s job, actually.”
“He’s a beast! You’re sure he’s not a gang lord or something?” Missy said and then clapped her hand over her mouth. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t stereotype. I just mean he’s…big.”
“Well, his dog is a beast, for sure.” Ashley studied man and dog. Jason had always been big, and rugged, but his face seemed squarer now, his shoulders more solid. His dark hair was cut short, suggesting his military background.
“Do you think you’ll hire him?”
What do you think–does she hire him? Of course she does!
I admit I never pictured Jason the giant wearing a scarf. Or a Bridgerton style coat. But clearly, Harlequin’s art department knows what it’s doing, because this book FLEW off the shelves. Thanks, everyone, for taking a chance on Jason and his service dog, Titan!
